Candlestick holds a special place in Beatles history. The Fab Four played its last ticketed performance at the venue on Aug. 29, 1966.
McCartney last performed in San Francisco at the 2013 Outside Lands festival, which is when rumors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's possible return to Candlestick first began to spread. Reports said McCartney and city officials began discussing a Candlestick show while the former Beatle was at Outside Lands.
The Candlestick farewell falls almost exactly 50 years to the day after the Beatles' first Bay Area show -- Aug. 19, 1964 at the nearby Cow Palace in Daly City.
