SANTA CLARA -- Released Tuesday by the 49ers, wide receivers Kyle Williams cleared waivers until getting snatched by the 32nd team in that order, the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.
Williams, a fourth-year wideout, will reunite with quarterback Alex Smith. In a corresponding roster move, the Chiefs cut wide receiver Chad Hall, who conceivably could return to the 49ers.
The 49ers have an open roster spot, and although they appear to be saving that in case they need a temp to fill in for tight end Vernon Davis or safety Eric Reid because of their concussions, they also could use depth at wideout and on punt returns.
Hall was among the 49ers' final training-camp cuts Aug. 31. He joined the 49ers' practice squad last November and was promoted to the active roster for the NFC Championship Game, in which he failed to catch the one pass targeted for him.
In other waiver-wire news, cornerback Perrish Cox went unclaimed after being waived along with Williams. Cox is now free to sign with any team, and so is fellow cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who got cut Nov. 4.
