SANTA CLARA -- Outside linebacker Aldon Smith was not fined for his apparently inadvertent kick Monday into Robert Griffin III's groin, the NFL said Friday.

Smith jumped in the air to defend a pass when his left leg impacted Griffin during the 49ers' 27-6 win at Washington.

Last year, the Detroit Lions' Ndamukong Suh drew a $30,000 fine for an intentional kick into the groin of Houston Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub.

Smith went on to record two sacks Monday night and raise his season total to 6½. He missed five games earlier this season while tending to personal issues.

Smith has been limited in practice this week by a left-shoulder injury.
