SANTA CLARA -- Ed Donatell, the 49ers' secondary coach since 2011, has re-signed with the club on a two-year contract, according to a league source.
Donatell had been considered a strong candidate for defensive coordinator positions with the Eagles and Buccaneers in recent years. He served in that capacity for the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and the University of Washington before serving as the Denver Broncos secondary coach in 2009-10.
Talks also are apparently underway to get a new, richer deal for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who's done a masterful job since joining the 49ers with coach Jim Harbaugh in 2011.
Harbaugh's contract has drawn the most attention this offseason, as he has two years remaining on a five-year, $25 million deal.
