SANTA CLARA -- Wide receiver Brandon Carswell was waived Friday, ending a 49ers tenure that saw him tear his right knee's anterior cruciate ligament in his first practice last June.
Carswell is a Milpitas High and USC product who was in the Raiders' 2012 training camp. The 49ers signed him last June 12, and he sustained his knee injury the following day at practice.
The 49ers' wide receiver corps currently features returning starters Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, along with reserves Quinton Patton, Jon Baldwin, Kassim Osgood, Chuck Jacobs, David Reed, DeMarco Sampson and Devon Wylie.
The 49ers reportedly have shown interest in re-acquiring Brandon Lloyd, a 2004 draft pick who did not play last season. Lloyd, 32, spent three seasons with the 49ers and played for five other teams. Comcast SportsNet reported that the 49ers have talked to Lloyd about a possible comeback.
