SUNNYVALE -- 49ers legend Ronnie Lott has given the San Jose SaberCats a rousing pep talk for their playoff run.
The squad is preparing for Sunday's showdown against the host Arizona Rattlers in the Nationals Conference finals, with the winner advancing to the ArenaBowl.
Lott, who played on four Super Bowl championship teams in San Francisco during his Pro Football Hall of Fame career, appeared this week at practice and told players to "exhaust every moment."
"These moments don't come often," Lott said afterward of what he told the squad. "They are moments that we sometimes take for granted, and when you put on a ring you get to wear it for life. It's a pick-me-up at some point in your life when you're down, you can always say that you were champs."
The SaberCats took Lott's message to heart.
"I'm star-struck still right now," running back Odie Armstrong said. "I hope he didn't leave, so I can get a picture. That was amazing. Growing up, he was my ... That's a legend right there. To meet him, that really made my day."
Defensive lineman Jason Stewart was particularly emotional during Lott's talk.
"I almost started crying, man," he said "That pep talk touched me. I can't even talk. ... Those words he said, 'Be exhausted. Exhaust the moment.' It's satisfies what we have to do on the field on Sunday. We have to exhaust every play. You can always give more. Every great player thinks like that."
