ALAMO -- A kitchen fire displaced as many as eight people from a home but caused no injuries early Friday morning, the San Ramon Valley Fire District said.

The single-alarm blaze was reported at 12:43 a.m. at a multiunit home in the 1100 block of Danville Boulevard. Firefighters extinguished the fire within 15 minutes.

Seven of the building's eight tenants were home when the fire broke out and escaped safely. A smoke alarm alerted the occupants of the unit where the fire started, said fire district spokeswoman Kim French.

The fire caused about $75,000 in damage and was pinpointed to a rear unit's kitchen, where a heating unit may have been located, French said. The American Red Cross was summoned to provide temporary housing assistance for displaced residents.
