SAN RAMON -- With the Oct. 12 deadline for nominations swiftly approaching, five bright San Ramon stars will soon shine at the Chamber of Commerce's annual Community Awards presentation.
Lurking in bustling San Ramon neighborhoods, hanging loose in the area's top-rated schools, or sending the meaning of "boss," "employee" and "earth-friendly" to dizzying heights of success are five local residents whose contributions to the community stand out from the crowd.
Last year, Shirley Ernest's 35 years of community support earned her a position on the Citizen of the Year pedestal. Gale Ranch Middle School science teacher Christy Tyler set the bar for academic excellence as Educator of the Year. And Business Person, Employee, and "Green" Company honors went respectively to Steve Wilcox, Summit Financial Group, LLC; Kari Gardella, ClubSport San Ramon; and PG&E Food Service Technology.
Public appreciation for Nancy Bambino, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year, and Hero of the Year winner Art Peterson, added a special moment to the festivities.
In a news release calling for nominations, Chamber of Commerce Chair Laura O'Brien paid tribute to the process, saying, "Although there can be only one winner in each category, a nomination is a significant recognition of achievement and dedication to the improvement of our community."
The 2012 Night of the Stars Community Awards will be presented Dec. 6 at San Ramon's Bridges Golf Club. A "no host" cocktail hour will set the network buzz humming, and San Ramon Valley school district spokesman Terry Koehne will be the master of ceremonies. Mayor Bill Clarkson, and O'Brien will add splash as hosts and speakers for the evening.
Tickets are $75 and are only available in advance, preregistration is a must. Nomination forms and complete information can be found at the San Ramon Chamber website, www.sanramon.org.
