TRI-VALLEY -- Veterans Day kicks off a week early in the Tri-Valley with two events in Dublin and Pleasanton this Saturday and Sunday.

A third event takes place at Las Positas College in Livermore on Nov. 9.

And on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, veterans groups from around the Tri-Valley will hold an event at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville.

Dublin will honor veterans at its annual Hometown Heroes Celebration from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dublin Senior Center, 7600 Amador Valley Blvd.

The CoolTones big band will play patriotic music after a public recognition of veterans and their family members by Army Lt. Col. David James, commander of the Camps Parks Reserve Training Area in Dublin.

The event is free to the public. Photos of veterans in uniform will be on display at the event. Also on display will be Dublin's historical exhibit on the Navy's Camp Parks Seabees base during World War II. Seabees recuperated and trained there before going back to combat areas in the Pacific Theater to build landing strips, roads and other infrastructure. The Seabees display will remain at the senior center through Wednesday. On weekdays, the center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Pleasanton, the Tri-Valley Veterans Day Parade will be at 1 p.m. Sunday on Main Street from Old Bernal Road to St. Mary's St. The event will feature color guards, marching bands, horses, jeeps, Humvees and other military vehicles. New this year are flyovers by a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter and a Coast Guard Helicopter. The parade review stand is in front of the Museum on Main at 603 Main St.

After the parade there will be a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building, 310 Main St., with a guest speaker and the Pleasanton Community Band. Marines and members of the P-Town Pushrods car club will collect donations of new boxed toys for Toys for Tots along the parade route before, during and after the parade. At Las Positas College, 3000 Campus Hill Drive, in Livermore, veterans will be honored at an event that begins at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at Building 4000. A Huey helicopter will be landing in the parking lot. An Air Force color guard will be on hand and veterans will sing the "National Anthem" and "God Bless America." A Vietnam War helicopter pilot and a CIA pilot will be among several speakers. Carl's Jr. will be supplying free food for veterans at the event.

In Danville, veterans will be honored Nov. 11 at a Veterans Day event in the Performing Arts Center at San Ramon Valley High School, 501 Danville Blvd. The theme this year is "A Tribute to Korean War Veterans." Doors will open at 10 a.m. A Korean veteran slide show, called "The Forgotten War" begins at 10:30 a.m. Korean War U.S. Marine veteran Bill Harbin will be the keynote speaker.
