DANVILLE -- Army Pfc. James Stanton, 22, got a red, white and blue welcome home on Saturday.

Returning after a seven-month deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan, he was greet by friends, neighbors and well-wishers with flags, cheers and warm hugs and handshakes.

Stanton, a 2008 graduate of San Ramon Valley High School, is based at Fort Hood, Texas.

Operation Welcome Home organized the event which included presentations from the Diablo Valley Flag Brigade, Warriors' Watch Riders, Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley, the American Legion, Pleasanton's VFW Post 6298, Blue Star Moms, Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich, county Supervisor Candace Andersen and others.
