Relay for Life returns at Cerrito Vista Park

The annual El Cerrito Relay For Life starts at 10 a.m. July 20 on the track at Cerrito Vista Park at Pomona Avenue and Moeser Lane and goes for 24 hours.

The fundraiser for American Cancer Society research and programs celebrates the lives of those who have battled the disease and those it has claimed. Cancer survivors walk the first lap.

Cleanup day planned along Cerrito Creek

Volunteers are invited to join the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers, the city's Green Teams and folks from Friends of Five Creeks in a cleanup day along the banks of Cerrito Creek west of San Pablo Avenue along the Albany-El Cerrito border extending south up Albany Hill and north to Central Park from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 20. All ages are welcome. Tools, gloves, snacks, and water provided. Meet at Creekside Park at the south end of Santa Clara Avenue.

University Village project back to commission

Revised plans for the University Village development in Albany are scheduled to be on the agenda when the Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. July 24 in the council chambers at City Hall, 1000 San Pablo Ave.

The project calls for an assisted living facility and a supermarket.

Free music performance at Down Home

Down Home Music Store, 10341 San Pablo Ave. in El Cerrito, is hosting another free in-store concert at 2 p.m. July 20.

New country singer/songwriter Zoe Muth, who is touring to promote her new CD, will perform with her band the Lost High Rollers.

Library system hosts survey to assess needs

The El Cerrito New Library Committee is urging the community to take the online survey being held by the Contra Costa County Library to help the system plan for its future growth. The survey is online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/CT77JWT.

City to hold Urban Greening Workshop

El Cerrito is holding the first of a trio of Urban Greening workshops at 6:30 p.m. July 23 in the multipurpose room at Harding Elementary School, 7230 Fairmount Ave.

"Urban Greening Workshop #1: Vision, Opportunities and Needs" will seek input on "the opportunities, needs and overall vision for urban greening, bicycle and pedestrian improvements and the San Pablo Avenue Specific Plan."

Register for annual National Night Out

The police departments in Albany and El Cerrito are encouraging residents to participate in National Night Out, the annual anti-crime event on Aug. 6 by hosting or attending block parties in their neighborhood.

Neighborhoods host get-togethers as a way to strengthen community and police partnerships.

El Cerrito High classes of 1972-74 reunion

Tickets are available now for a joint 40th reunion for the classes of 1972, '73 and '74 at El Cerrito High School set for 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 3. El Cerrito hiking group will host outings

An evening hike hosted by the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers on July 21 will explore Jewel Lake and climb Wildcat Peak in Tilden Regional Park before returning to the canyon floor. Meet Tom Gehling 6 p.m. at the entrance to the Little Farm in Tilden and wear good walking shoes, bring water and maybe binoculars to catch a closer view of wildlife.
