ANTIOCH -- The city's boating clubs are again looking to sail in with some holiday cheer.
Antioch's Holiday Lighted Boat parade, now in its 26th year, continues to delight residents looking to get in a festive mood.
The parade will be held 5:30 p.m. Saturday along the Antioch waterfront, weather permitting.
"With all the boats going down the river and lit up, it's a gorgeous sight," said Georgine Shunk, one of the event founders.
The best locations to view the parade are the Antioch Municipal Pier and all along Second Street in downtown Antioch, according to event officials.
The event is sponsored by Driftwood, Sportsman, Bridge Marina yacht clubs and the Ebony Boat Club. It was brought to Antioch when members of the Bridge Marina club participated in similar parades elsewhere.
"We figured that we have this gorgeous riverfront out here and we should take advantage of it," Shunk said.
The parade, which has about 15 entries, is free. Anyone is welcome to bring their boat and participate.
The boat parade also includes a drive for toys, which will be given to homeless students attending Antioch schools. The toys will be collected either at Antioch Wesleyan Church, 2800 Sunset Lane, before Saturday, or at the Antioch Unified school services building, 510 G St., before or after the parade.
Toys collected at the church will be driven through downtown by a convoy of decorated motorcycles to the school district
