OAKLAND -- The Petaluma Little League team continued to reap the rewards for advancing to the U.S. title game of the Little League World Series, joining the A's for pre-game warm-ups and shagging flies during batting practice Friday night.
Wearing their green and good uniforms -- notably, the same colors as Oakland's -- the team toured the A's clubhouse and played catch with the A's players. The team was scheduled to be honored prior to Friday night's game between the A's and Boston Red Sox.
"I think they're starting to realize how big it is for the Bay Area," said the team's manager Eric Smith.
Petaluma made it to the U.S. championship of the Little League tournament last Saturday in Williamsport, Pa., overcoming a 10-run deficit in that game before losing in extra innings. The team then won the consolation game Sunday, prevailing 12-4 over a team from Panama.
Petaluma assistant coach Trevor Tomei said being ceberated by the A's will rank high on the team's post-Williamsport treats.
"I'd definitely say this is up there, top of the list," said Tomei. "They're playing with the big boys now."
Petaluma will hold its own celebration for the team on Sunday with a downtown parade.
