OAKLAND -- Next week Oakland will find itself green and gold as an Oakland Athletics flag was installed at the Tribune Tower Friday to kick off Oakland A's Spirit Week.

Mayor Jean Quan officially proclaimed next week -- Monday to April 7 -- as Oakland A's Spirit Week, supporting the 2012 American League West Division champions.

Noting the team's progress, Quan said she is hopeful the team can clinch another division championship and maybe even a World Series title.

Quan and A's manager Bob Melvin went atop the Tribune Tower to raise the flag. City Hall will also bear an A's flag next week.

Thousands of "Oakland Loves Our A's" posters will be posted throughout the city at hotels, restaurants and local businesses. The Oakland International Airport will also show A's pride by shining the team's lights from the curbs of the terminals.

"Oakland is saying we are proud of our team and we support them all the way," said Alison Best, CEO of Visit Oakland. "Sports is something that really brings the community together, and we're so lucky to have the teams we have."
