Oakland Animal Services will be participating in the nation's largest two-day, free adoption event Saturday and Sunday.
The shelter is joining 80 locations throughout Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties that hope to find good homes for dogs and cats while raising money through Maddie's Fund. The organization donates $500 to $2,000 to shelters for every animal adopted.
OAS gave homes to 167 animals and raised $99,000, which was put toward operating costs.
The shelter is currently prescreening those looking for pets till Friday.
The adoptions will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1101 29th Ave. in Oakland.
