Fair tickets to be distributed Saturday
Discounted Alameda County Fair tickets will be distributed 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the City Hall parking lot.
The lot is located in the 1500 block of Oak Street between City Hall and the Alameda police station.
Fair director and former Vice Mayor Lil Arnerich will distribute the tickets, which offer a 50 percent reduction in the admission price, and fair programs.
The county fair is celebrating its 100th anniversary and will be open June 20 through July 8.
Alameda Democratic Club to host fundraiser
The Alameda Democratic Club will hold its Fifth Annual Garden Party 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 24 at the Harbor Bay Community Center, 3195 Mecartney Road.
The event will feature two guest speakers, food and beverages and a silent auction.
Proceeds benefit the club's upcoming campaign headquarters and the effort to re-elect President Barack Obama and increase the number of Democratic representatives.
Reservations are $35 for each adult or $60 for a couple.

Alameda library now has its own mobile app
The Alameda Free Library has recently launched a mobile app, which allows people to search the catalog and their accounts via their mobile phone.
To access the app, go to afl.boopsie.com on your mobile device.
The Alameda library's app was developed by Boopsie Inc., which has provided similar apps to more than 250 libraries and universities.
