An 18-year-old man is dead and a female passenger of the same age in the hospital after the motorcycle he was driving slammed into a sedan around 8:25 p.m. Thursday in a residential area of south San Jose.
Police said neither the man nor the woman on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet when it collided with a 2005 Toyota Corolla while making a turn from Oberlin Way onto Beckham Drive.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at 10:22 p.m. at Regional Medical Center, police said. The woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, and did not appear to be intoxicated, police said.
Detectives are looking into whether excessive speed played a roll in the crash, police said.
The identity of the motorcycle driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
