MARIN COUNTY -- A burglary suspect who fled from police, climbed onto a roof, then scaled a redwood tree before jumping back to the roof was in critical condition Friday.
Larkspur authorities said the drama unfolded about 10:30 p.m. after a resident on Cane Street reported an attempted break-in by a man who fled.
Police spotted a suspect and chased him through a creek area before he climbed to the top of the roof of a home on Monte Vista Avenue. Officers circled the home and ordered him to come down, but he jumped over to a redwood tree and climbed to the top.
The man refused to come down and firefighters were called to help pluck him from the tree using a fire ladder, but before they arrived, he jumped to the roof of a two-story house.
Police said he suffered "serious injuries and caused major damage to the roof."
"Due to his injuries and lack of identification, the suspect remains unidentified," Twin Cities police said early Friday.
