OAKLAND -- Oakland Police are asking Craigslist buyers to use precaution after a string of armed robberies in the city.
Victims are being lured by Craiglist ads featuring items including cars and electronics that are for sale, said police spokeswoman Johnna Watson. The victims arrive at a designated meeting place and are robbed at gun point.
Watson said the robberies are taking place in north Oakland from 8-9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"We have seen an increase in the last three to four weeks," Watson said.
This week, she said, at least four victims have been robbed.
Police are offering safety tips that include not meeting in secluded areas. Highly populated and well traveled areas are better, police said.
A few other tips: Don't travel to a location with a large amount of cash and if someone or something looks suspicious, leave. If threatened, give the subjects the property they are asking for, police said.
Anyone with information about the robberies can contact the Oakland Police Department's Major Crimes Section at (510) 238-3326 or the TIP LINE at 773-2805.
