BYRON -- A person who was seriously injured in a head-on, hit-and-run collision on the Byron Highway near Holey Road Friday has died as a result of the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The person, whose identity has not yet been released, was among four people injured in the wreck that took place just before 5:24 p.m., said Officer James Evans.
Three others who survived suffered more moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals, Evans said.
The collision involved a black Cadillac Escalade and a silver vehicle, either a Honda or a Dodge, Evans said.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene after the crash, the CHP said.
The Byron Highway was reopened around 7:40 p.m. after the CHP monitored traffic in both directions in the aftermath of the wreck.
