OAKLAND -- A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder in the July fatal shooting of a 19-year-old San Leandro woman killed at an East Oakland motel, police said Wednesday.
Andre Moncrease Jr., of Oakland, is accused of killing Tianna Leui, who was fatally shot about 3 a.m. July 12 in a room at the Starlite Motel, 10000 MacArthur Blvd. Leui had been staying at the motel at least two weeks.
Officer Brad Baker said the two were "acquaintances" who had known each other for at least several months.
Baker said Moncrease has denied killing Leui and police have not determined a motive.
Baker said people with knowledge of the killing came forward soon after with information that led to Moncrease being identified as the suspect.
He was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at 45th Avenue and International Boulevard by officers with a crime reduction team supervised by Sgt. Kevin Reed.
Moncrease is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail. Authorities said he has several prior drug convictions, including possession of cocaine, and was on probation at the time of the shooting.
