SAN LEANDRO -- Police arrested a suspect early Sunday they say used an ice pick to stab and wound a man in his own apartment.

Officers arrested suspect Michael Hilburn, 38, of Newark after a short car chase that ended near Foothill Boulevard and Stanley Avenue in Oakland, said San Leandro police Lt. Jeff Tudor.

Officers began looking for the suspect around 1:05 a.m. when someone reported a stabbing in an apartment on the 600 block of Fargo Avenue in San Leandro. Once they arrived officers found a 57-year-old man with several stab wounds to his torso that had been made with "an object similar to an ice pick."

The victim was rushed to the hospital, but his wounds don't appear to be life threatening, Tudor said. Investigators have not found the weapon.

Police learned the suspect was near International Boulevard and 105th Avenue and later spotted his white Chevrolet Suburban in the area. After a short car chase police arrested Hilburn without any further trouble.
