A 70-year-old man faces a burglary charge after a witness spotted him breaking into a shed at Alameda Point, police said.
The man, who was arrested Nov. 12, is also accused of possessing burglary tools after police said they found a wrench, crowbar and flashlight near where he was taken into custody in the 1400 block of Viking Street.
Officers detained the man outside the vacant shed about 4:20 p.m. after they were dispatched to the former Naval base to investigate the witness report.
Along with locating the man at the scene, the officers also found plywood had been pried from the shed's door when they arrived.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 7 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a woman, 55, on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop about 2:20 a.m. in the 2100 block of Alameda Avenue. VEHICLE THEFT -- Vehicles were reported stolen about 9 a.m. in the 600 block of Santa Clara Avenue and about 40 minutes later in the 2000 block of Pacific Avenue. Police also recovered two stolen vehicles at Lafayette Street and Encinal Avenue on Wednesday.
THURSDAY, NOV. 8 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 10:35 a.m. in the 400 block of Taylor Avenue. A vehicle was also reported stolen about 90 minutes later in the 1900 block of Third Street, police said. IDENTITY THEFT -- Identity theft was reported about 3:50 p.m. in the 200 block of Ennismore Court. Someone used the victim's personal information to rent a car, police said. BURGLARY -- A thief broke into six storage units in the 2100 block of Santa Clara Avenue. Police learned about the break-in at 4:40 p.m.
FRIDAY, NOV. 9 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 8 a.m. in the 1400 block of Caroline Street. GRAND THEFT -- Someone entered Ploughshares Nursery on Main Street and stole 100 bags of fertilizer. The thief is believed to have climbed a fence to get inside. Police learned about the theft at 9:05 a.m. RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- A vehicle reported stolen in Oakland was recovered about 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Easterbrook Court. IDENTITY THEFT -- A resident of the 1700 block of Lincoln Avenue reported identity theft about 1:40 p.m. Someone used the victim's Social Security number for employment, police said.
SATURDAY, NOV. 10 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- A traffic stop about 1:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Taylor Avenue led to the arrest of a man, 40, on suspicion of drunken driving. Another man, 35, was arrested for the same offense just after 11 p.m. in the 1800 block of Webster Street, police said. PETTY THEFT -- Someone shoplifted merchandise from the CVS store on Santa Clara Avenue. The theft was reported shortly after 9 a.m. Police also arrested a 17-year-old girl about 12:10 p.m. on suspicion of petty theft after she allegedly concealed merchandise in her purse at Kohl's at Alameda South Shore Center, then exited the store without paying. BURGLARY -- A burglary was reported at 9:25 a.m. in the 2200 block of Central Avenue, where a woman told police that someone entered a garage and stole her bicycle. A burglary of a vacant building was also reported about 7:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of Lexington Street. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 10:20 p.m. in the 1800 block of Wood Street.
SUNDAY, NOV. 11 VEHICLE VIOLATION -- A patrol officer tried to pull over a motorist for speeding about 12:15 a.m. at Park Street and Eagle Avenue, but the driver refused to stop and sped away. Police did not follow the motorist because the pursuit threatened public safety. PETTY THEFT -- The theft of an outboard motor from a sailboat was reported about 7:50 a.m. in the 1100 block of Pacific Marina. VEHICLE THEFT -- Someone stole a vehicle in the 2200 block of Encinal Avenue. The theft was reported about 4:45 p.m. MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 32, on suspicion of possessing marijuana packaged for sale after an officer initially contacted him during a traffic stop. The 41-year-old woman who was driving was also arrested for vehicle code violations. The stop occurred about 10:10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Park Street.
MONDAY, MAY 12 VANDALISM -- Police arrested two men who were each wanted on outstanding warrants at La Penca Azul on Park Street after officers were dispatched about 12:45 a.m. to investigate a report that someone threw a chair through a window during a fight. It was unclear who threw the chair, police said, but officers learned about the warrants during a routine background check of the two men. ATTEMPTED BURGLARY -- Someone attempted to break into a residence in the 1300 block of Eighth Street by entering the backyard, removing a window screen and sliding open an unlocked window. The attempt was reported about 2:15 p.m. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle theft was reported stolen about 6:10 p.m. in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue.
