HAYWARD -- A nonprofit organization and the family of a man who was found dead in an abandoned former auto repair shop are offering a $1,000 reward for information on his killing.

The Citizens for the Lost, an Oakland-based nonprofit group, and the family of Luis Ernesto Calleros want information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the death of the 19-year-old Hayward man.

Calleros was last seen Oct. 21 leaving his home near Folsom and Pompano avenues in south Hayward, police said. His father reported him missing Nov. 1.

His body was discovered by a passerby who smelled something foul on Nov. 7 in the abandoned Perry and Key Auto Repair Shop on Mission Boulevard in Hayward.

Authorities have not released a cause of death but say the case is being treated as a homicide. A public candlelight vigil and rosary were held Nov. 11 at the auto repair shop. A private memorial service will be held Saturday .

Amy Rickard, spokeswoman for Citizens For the Lost, said the group would like to raise more money to add to the reward.

Anyone with information about Calleros' death or disappearance can call police at 510-293-7000 or submit an anonymous tip at 510-293-7197.
