HAYWARD -- A nonprofit organization and the family of a Hayward man found dead in an abandoned auto repair shop have doubled a reward to $2,000 for information about his killing.
The family of Luis Ernesto "Neto" Calleros and Citizens for the Lost of Oakland are doing everything they can to keep the case in the public eye, said Amy Rickard, a spokeswoman for the citizens organization.
A second candlelight vigil is planned for the evening of Dec. 22 to mark the two-month anniversary of Calleros's death. The location of the vigil has not yet been set.
Calleros was last seen Oct. 22, leaving a home near Folsom and Pompano avenues in south Hayward, police said. His father reported him missing Nov. 1.
His body was discovered on Nov. 7, in the abandoned Perry and Key Auto Repair Shop on Mission Boulevard in Hayward, police said. Authorities have not released a cause of death but are treating the case as a homicide
Anyone with information about Calleros' death or disappearance can call police at 510-293-7000 or submit an anonymous tip at 510-293-7197.
