New presidents have been named for two Peralta Colleges.

Deborah Budd, the interim president at Berkeley City College, will drop the "interim" from her title. Norma Ambriz-Galaviz, the vice president of instruction for Mission College in Santa Clara, will take the helm at Oakland's Merritt College.

Budd has more than 16 years of administrative experience and nine years of teaching experience, according to the college district. She earned her undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara, her master's in education from Stanford University and her doctorate in educational leadership from San Francisco State University.

Ambriz-Galaviz worked for 17 years at Chabot College in Hayward before she was hired at Mission College in 2008. She has held various positions at community colleges, including psychology instructor, counselor and dean. Ambriz-Galaviz went to Hartnell College and San Diego State University and later earned a master's of science in counseling at San Diego State and a doctorate in education leadership from University of La Verne.
