The body of an adult was found this morning after firefighters and police responded to a small blaze in a storage unit of a Campbell apartment complex, according to police Capt. Dave Carmichael.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious, Carmichael said.

Early this morning the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in a carport of a four-plex located on Koehnis Drive, near Hamilton and Bascom avenues in Campbell, according to Carmichael. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which swept through a detached storage area located behind the complex.

Firefighters discovered the body and contacted Campbell police. Detectives responded to the scene, along with a county arson investigator, Carmichael said.

The county fire department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire and the cause of the person's death, Carmichael said.

Police have stated the victim was an adult but have not identified the person's gender.

The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once family members have been notified.
