A redwood tree about 150 feet tall fell across a Larkspur street Monday and smashed into a two-story home across the road, firefighters said.
The tree toppled at about 11:35 a.m. from its yard at 313 W. Baltimore Ave. in Madrone Canyon. It crashed into 320 W. Baltimore Ave., where a resident was present in the house at the time, said Larkspur fire Chief Robert Sinnott.
The resident was not injured. The tree caused "significant damage" to the roof and second floor of the house, Sinnott said.
The spot where the tree fell is near the end of West Baltimore Avenue, and there are no side streets for traffic detours. Nearly 20 homes sit west of the location.
Sinnott said the redwood probably fell because of root decay.
The tree also took down utility lines, and about 70 customers lost power on West Baltimore Avenue, Shady Lane and Piedmont Road, said PG&E spokeswoman Brittany McKannay. PG&E sent crews to repair the lines.
San Rafael firefighters assisted the Larkspur Fire Department in the incident.
