SAN JOSE -- About 40 firefighters extinguished a fire that started in a shed and damaged a commercial building in north Willow Glen at midday Saturday, the San Jose Fire Department reported.

No injuries were reported. The origin of the fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation, Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.

At 11:04 a.m., a neighbor reported a fire at Western Roofing Supply at 995 Lonus St., off Lincoln Avenue near San Carlos Street, in a commercial area. Arriving firefighters noticed flames in a shed built against the side of a concrete building. The fire spread to the main building via wood under the eves at the front entrance, Van Elgort said, and firefighters called in a second alarm.

The fire was brought under control at 12:21 p.m., he said. The main building and several sheds, built of wood, fiberglass and metal, were damaged.

An adult woman appeared to be living in one of the sheds, and the American Red Cross was called for housing assistance.
