SAN JOSE -- A bicyclist was killed in a horrific crash near downtown San Jose when a dump truck collided with a delivery truck, causing it to topple onto her, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The crash was reported at 9:43 a.m. Thursday at Lincoln and Auzerais avenues and involved a westbound delivery truck and a southbound dump truck, Officer Albert Morales said. The female victim, who family members identified as Shayla Cypriano, 23, was traveling on Lincoln when the delivery truck overturned and fell on her. She died at the scene and leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter, according to family members. Police have not officially identified the victim.
Both drivers in the collision were uninjured and cooperative with police, Morales said.
Canned energy drinks were strewed across the intersection in the aftermath of the fatal collision, the city's 17th of the year. There were 29 fatal collisions that killed 30 people in 2012.
The SJPD Traffic Investigation Unit was summoned to the crash site, which was expected to be closed for several hours. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
The collision occurred one block west of another fatal collision involving a bicyclist. A man was hit by a light-rail train Saturday after he reportedly bypassed a lowered crossing arm near Sunol Street.
