Two suspects punched a 14-year boy and stole two of his cellphones last week, Menlo Park police reported.
The victim was in the vicinity of Willow Road and Newbridge Street at 11:21 p.m. Wednesday when the assailants stole his phone and one that belonged to his mother, according to police.
The phones -- a Google Nexus 7 and a Samsung -- are valued at $800, police spokeswoman Nicole Acker said. She described the suspects as "gang member types."
The boy's mother called 911 nearly four hours after the incident, she said. "Because there was a delay in him coming home and telling her, [the victim's mother] believes that the victim is not telling the full story of what happened," Acker reported.
The incident is being investigated.
