BAY POINT -- Firefighters took just over an hour to knock down a 20-acre vegetation fire Sunday afternoon off Port Chicago Highway.
There were no injuries or structural damage, according to a Contra Costa County Fire dispatcher.
The blaze was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the area off Nichols Road. Stirred by wind, the blaze quickly grew, spreading east along the road toward Driftwood Drive.
Firefighters responded and attacked the fire from several directions. A facility owned by the General Chemical West Corporation, which handles some hazardous materials, is near the site of the fire, but was never in danger, according to the dispatcher.
