A motorcyclist killed Wednesday morning after veering into a sound wall near Livermore Downs Park has been identified, police said.

Daniel Aaron Vanderhoofven, 31, was found near his motorcycle just after 12:30 a.m. by a patrolling officer near the intersection of Murrieta Boulevard and Portola Avenue, Lt. Ava Garavatti said. The officer immediately began lifesaving efforts on the man before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Garavatti said.

Early investigation suggests that the crash may have occurred when Vanderhoofven failed to negotiate a slight curve in the road, veering the motorcycle off the road and into the Murrieta Blvd. sound wall, Garavatti said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The fatal crash is the second to occur in Livermore in 2012, and the first involving a motorcycle.
