PLEASANTON -- Pleasanton police have joined forces with federal investigators, broadening their search for the identity of a woman whose body was found in May in a trashcan along Dublin Canyon Road.

Police are now working extensively with the FBI and the Department of Justice to try to get any leads on the case that has so far yielded none, said police Lt. Jeff Bretzing.

He said the collaboration has been going on since early in the investigation, but now federal agencies are taking a more extensive role in trying to help identify the woman by providing access and searching data bases outside the area.

While no matches have been found so far, Bretzing said the department will not stop searching for her identity. Facial sketches and photos initially released of the woman's jewelry did not yield any leads.

In July, a forensic odontologist was brought in to analyze the victim's teeth. But, the analysis will only help if the woman's dental records are found in a database.

Police were called to the Dublin Canyon site on May 24 after a caller reported a suspicious-looking trash can sitting on the road.

So far, no cause or time of death has been determined due to the body's decomposition. The woman is believed to have be in her 20s, but her age could span from 18 to 40 years old, according to police.

The coroner's office determined the woman was probably Asian or Hispanic with dark hair and was about 5-foot-6 and weighed

She was found wearing an Old Navy shirt and pajama bottoms. She was also wearing blue fingernail polish, red toenail polish and had three ear piercings in each ear with distinctive earrings. She had no tattoos or other distinctive markings.

Police have said that the "America's Most Wanted" TV show is considering coverage of the case, which is currently being treated as a homicide.
