OAKLAND -- A drive-by shooter was hospitalized Friday night after a person he opened fire on along a city street shot back in self defense, police said.
The victim was not injured in the shooting that took place just before 10:49 p.m. in the 3600 block of Brown Avenue, Officer K. McDonald said.
The victim told police that he and another person were walking along the street when a vehicle drove by and a person began shooting at them, McDonald said.
One of the victims fired back at the suspect in self-defense, striking him, McDonald said.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries then transported to jail, McDonald said.
A getaway driver was also arrested and taken to jail, police said.
