WALNUT CREEK -- All lanes of southbound Interstate 680 have been reopened following Tuesday morning's shooting investigation, the California Highway Patrol said.

Traffic remains slow and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The northern and southern directions of the freeway were closed after the 8:20 a.m. shooting.

Northbound 680 has reopened a few hours later, but the southbound direction was closed throughout the day. All lanes were reopened by 7 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays as they are rerouted to surface roads: San Ramon Valley Boulevard in Alamo and South Main Street in Walnut Creek.

Motorists should use San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Crow Canyon Road from San Ramon to Castro Valley to access east and west Interstate 580. Highway 24 remained open. Expect delays on Highway 13, Interstate 80 and Interstate 880 though out the day and into the evening.
