SAN LEANDRO -- A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police say he stabbed another man during a fight.
Officers responded to a 9:43 p.m. call Thursday for a reported stabbing in the 2000 block of Alvarado Street, said Lt. Jeff Tudor. At the scene police found a 42-year-old man who had been stabbed in the right hand.
He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for the injury.
Investigators learned the victim was socializing with friends when the suspect --who police identified as Anthony Nunes of San Leandro -- began yelling profanities at him.
When the victim confronted the suspect, a physical fight broke out and during the melee the suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim, Tudor said. After the stabbing, Nunes was physically restrained by a Good Samaritan until police arrived and took him into custody, Tudor said.
Nunes was also transported to a local hospital for injuries he suffered during the fight. After being treated for his injuries officers transported him to jail.
