OAKLAND -- A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting Monday night near the Coliseum BART station, police said.
The man was identified Tuesday as Demarcus Ross of Oakland.
The shooting happened about 8:50 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of 71st Avenue near Spencer Street, not far from the BART station parking lot. Police said Ross was walking by himself when someone in a passing car opened fire.
Ross was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:24 p.m. Police do not have a motive and no arrests have been made.
The killing was Oakland's 88th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 87 homicides in the city.
