The cutting head, which is part of the roadheader machine which excavated about 80 percent of the new fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel, is lifted away to a new location Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Orinda, Calif. The roadheader began tunneling from the Orinda side in August 2010, and broke through to the Berkeley side in November 2011. Each cutting head of the roadheader has 48 digging "pics," and the machine went through 4,000 pics during the excavation.
