OAKLAND -- A 27-year-old man was shot to death early Saturday in the lower Dimond district of East Oakland, police said.
Oakland resident Ian Smart was found with several gunshot wounds about 1 a.m. in the 3100 block of Pleitner Avenue, near School Street, a few blocks from Interstate 580. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe Smart lived in the neighborhood, Officer Herb Webber said. He said police don't have a motive, and no arrests have been made.
The homicide was Oakland's 109th of the year. Last year at this time, there were 102 homicides in Oakland.
Police are also investigating a shooting that happened about 7:45 p.m. Friday in West Oakland.
Police said a man was shot in the 3200 block of Helen Street but was able to get a ride to a hospital, where he was in stable condition with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police don't have a motive, and no arrests have been made.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the killing and up to $5,000 in the other shooting.
