OAKLAND -- Despite a downed power line, the roughly 1,600 PG&E customers who suddenly found themselves in the dark Tuesday now have power.

According to PG&E, customers have been hooked up to another power line in the area while the one that is down is fixed.

The line fell to the pavement about 1:40 p.m. after a big rig truck hit a pole at Fourth and Adeline streets, officials said. The outage spread to numerous blocks in different directions, but power was restored to most customers within an hour.

It is unclear when the line will be fixed, but PG&E has crews out working on the line, despite the rain.

It is still unclear what caused the big-rig to crash into the pole Tuesday afternoon.
