WALNUT CREEK -- The Walnut Creek City Council approved a $17,000 grant to Trinity Center, a nonprofit that offers services to the homeless.
Trinity Center officials estimate the money will help fund their programs through June 30.
The center took over operations Nov. 1 from Fresh Start, after that homeless-services community center closed its doors.
Fresh Start had been housed in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and the church agreed to start Trinity Center in order to continue providing hot meals, clothes, phone and mail access, laundry and shower facilities, and counseling services to the homeless.
Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva said she voted for the grant because it is the only service of its kind for homeless in the city.
Donations can be mailed to 1924 Trinity Ave., Walnut Creek, Attn. Trinity Center.
