FREMONT -- The Fremont Unified School District plans to use a recent $277,000 grant to complete construction for its new professional development center.

The Fremont Bank Foundation, the charity arm of Fremont Bank, awarded the grant to the district about a week before its 33,000 K-12 students took their holiday break Dec. 21.

The new center will provide technology upgrades, including a state-of-the-art television studio. It also will feature an expanded facility, where district teachers, administrators and support staff will continue to receive professional training. Project construction is expected to be completed by late January, district officials said.

The grant "meets a critical need and will help ensure that our schools remain strong and a source of local pride," said James Morris, Fremont's superintendent of schools.
