CARMEL HIGHLANDS -- A Concord man was arrested in Monterey County after sheriff's deputies said he grabbed his wife and threatened to kill her during a fight in a hotel room.

A guest in a neighboring room at the Highlands Inn in called 911 about 8:15 p.m. Thursday after hearing the woman yell for help and thinking she was being choked.

Timothy R. Whicher, 51, of Concord, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, spousal abuse and criminal threats.

Deputies said the man became angry with his wife while they were staying at the hotel and she wanted to leave because of his intoxication and anger.

Deputies said he grabbed her on the deck, covered her mouth and nose with a hand, and threatened to kill her.

At one point, she bit his hand to try to free herself. She also begged him to think of their children, deputies said.

The next-door guest asked what was going on, and the suspect said everything was OK, deputies said.
