HAYWARD -- A "teach-in" about homelessness and hunger is planned for Jan. 11 at City Hall.
The event, Food Insecurity and Homelessness Awareness Day, is hosted by South Hayward Parish and Hayward Councilman Francisco Zermeno.
"We have people in our community who do not eat well and who do not have a home. And we have people who would like to help but don't know where to go," Zermeno said.
On hand will be some people who were at one time homeless, he said. Spectrum Community Services, the Hayward Community Gardens and the Kids Breakfast Club representatives will talk about services the nonprofit agencies offer.
Breakout sessions are planned to talk about possible solutions, and there will be pledge cards for those who wish to donate to help provide food and housing.
The event takes place 5 to 7 p.m. at 777 B St., Hayward.
