SANTA CLARA -- Colin Kaepernick is doing his best to ignore his sudden rise to national prominence while the 49ers head into Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
He isn't gloating over his appearance on this week's Sports Illustrated cover. He forwards fan mail and other requests to his agent. He is focused squarely on facing the Atlanta Falcons for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
When he leaves the 49ers facility, Kaepernick described his daily routine as this: "I go home, I watch my film, watch anything on TV but sports. I go to bed and come back and do the same the next day."
But he does scan his Instagram account to see who's been mimicking his "Kaepernicking" move, in which he kisses the tattoos on his right biceps. "I saw a girl Kaepernicking while she was riding a horse," Kaepernick said of the best image he's seen thus far.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said of Kaepernick's ability to handle the newfound fame: "Colin does a great job of continuing in his humility."
