Bay Area air just can't seem to catch a break.
Air quality officials said Friday that because the high pressure system across the West Coast continues to persist, pollution remains trapped close to the ground and as a result creates unhealthy air quality across the Bay Area region.
The Air District issued its fourth consecutive Winter Spare the Air Alert for Saturday -- the seventh alert of the season. Wood burning is banned in the nine-county Bay Area region while the alert is in effect.
Like cigarette smoke, air officials said wood smoke has immediate health impacts for both residents inside the home and surrounding neighbors as well.
