SAN LEANDRO -- One man was killed and another woman injured in an early afternoon shooting that forced the closure of the Bay Fair BART station, officials said.
The shooting was reported about 12:20 p.m. in the bus zone in front of the station, located off Hesperian Boulevard, according to BART police Sgt. Carolyn Perea.
Police said the man who was killed, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the station, while the woman suffered injuries that were not life threatening. She was taken to a hospital and has since been released.
Neither person's identity was immediately available.
Police have one suspect, a 16-year-old, in custody and are seeking at least three people who may be connected to the attack, according to police.
KTVU reported that the shooting was a result of two feuding gangs who met up at the station, got into an argument, and then began a shootout.
The male victim was allegedly an innocent bystander, KTVU reported.
The station was still closed as of 2:20 p.m., with no estimate on when it would reopen.
Trains were still moving through the station, but not stopping. Buses from AC Transit were taking passengers from the Hayward and San Leandro stations to the Bay Fair area.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Bay Fair BART station partially re-opened. Southbound trains will stop but northbound trains still continue to run through.
