CASTRO VALLEY -- The California Highway Patrol's Castro Valley office is looking for senior volunteers.

The volunteers help out with administrative functions, such as filing, photocopying and answering phones. They also take traffic surveys, work at community events, direct traffic, and shuttle vehicles and other equipment. While in the field, the volunteers drive marked CHP cars in uniform. They also sometimes ride along with officers.

Those interested must be 55 years and older and able to work at least four hours a week. A good driving record is required, and the volunteers must first complete a training program.

Those interested should contact Lt. Chris Sherry at 510-581-9028 or csherry@chp.ca.gov. Interviews for the posts will begin in February.
