The SaberCats announced Tuesday that they have been assigned wide receiver Corbin Louks, a former San Ramon Valley High star quarterback, on a one-year contract.
"Corbin is someone we think will be able to come in right away and compete during camp," said owner/coach Darren Arbet. "He's a fantastic athlete."
Louks, 6-foot and 200 pounds, most recently spent time on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. He spent two seasons at the University of Nevada, playing safety as a junior and wide receiver as a senior.
The Earthquakes selected Stanford senior Adam Jahn, a target forward, 15th overall in the MLS supplemental draft.
The Quakes, who did not have a second-round pick, took midfielder/forward Colin Mitchell of San Francisco (Oregon State) and defender Peter McGlynn (UC Santa Barbara) in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
Also invited were former Stanford players Nicole Barnhart, Rachel Buehler, Kelley O'Hara and Christen Press and Santa Clara junior Julie Johnston. Also invited to camp is Stanford commit Jane Campbell, at 17, the youngest goalkeeper called up since 18-year-old Hope Solo in 1999.
Cal, coming of a 58-7 season and back-to-back trips to the Women's College World Series, is ranked third in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll.
The Bears earned one first-place vote and trail only Alabama and Oklahoma in the ratings. Stanford is ranked No. 21.
